As a onetime Detroit Free Press gossip columnist it only seemed fitting for Carol Teegardin to pen a play about former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s infamous Manoogian Mansion bachelor party. That’s where exotic dancer Strawberry allegedly performed; was beaten by the mayor’s wife and later killed amid a bullet-ridden drive-by. As Strawberry’s homicide case went cold, Kilpatrick’s crimes went viral, he wound up in jail and the rest remains Detroit’s most notorious, unforgotten tale. Play is directed by the esteemed director Mary Bremer-Beer, who has acted and directed on most stages in the Detroit area. Her husband Arthur J. Beer, who has written over 200 plays and directed more, serves as artistic director.
